Generator
What each field is for
- Seller and buyer
- The party selling the goods and the party buying them, with a postal address. Use the names that match the contract.
- Invoice number and date
- Your reference and the date the invoice was raised. Customs files often expect both.
- Description, quantity and unit value
- What the goods are, how many, and the price per unit in the currency you choose. The generator multiplies quantity by unit value.
- Incoterms
- The agreed trade term, such as FCA or DAP, if you have one. The page does not choose a term for you.
Common mistakes
- Using a proforma, or a zero-value invoice, when the goods are a sale.
- Leaving the currency off, or mixing currencies on one invoice.
- Describing the goods as “parts” with no quantity or value.
- Expecting this PDF to calculate duty or to be a carrier original.
Questions
Is the blank commercial invoice template free?
Yes, after you enter an email and agree to the FreightMath newsletter. A completed PDF is a separate paid file at the single-document price, or you can buy the commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading together.
Does this calculate customs duty?
No. It records the description, quantity and value you type. It does not look up a tariff.
